Christian Newton | Men's Head Coach | Colorado St.
Christian Newton, a 18-year coaching veteran, is starting his ninth season as the Colorado State men’s golf head coach in 2020-21. Newton was hired Aug. 21, 2012 as the third coach in program history.
In the pandemic-shortened season in 2019-20, the Rams had significant success on the course, winning three consecutive tournaments, including the prestigious Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Alabama. The Rams finished the year ranked 19th in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll and earned numerous individual recognitions.
Newton has led CSU to one of its most successful three year spans in program history from 2016-19, with three consecutive Mountain West runner-up finishes, the best three-year performance ever for the Rams. In earning 2018 Mountain West Coach of the Year honors, Newton led CSU to its ranking of No. 40 according to Golfweek and No. 44 according to Golfstat and its first NCAA Regionals berth under his leadership and as a team since 2012. This year, the Rams have again matched that with another NCAA Regionals berth, two team tournament titles, seven top-five finishes, a No. 41 ranking in Golfstat and No. 43 in Golfweek. The Rams have also earned seven consecutive GCAA All-Academic Team awards during his tenure.
Glen Millican | Men's Head Coach | New Mexico
Entering his 20th year as head coach of The University of New Mexico men’s golf team in 2020-21, UNM alumnus Glen Millican has enjoyed tremendous success at his alma mater, winning an unprecedented seven Mountain West Championships, including back-to-back titles in 2012-13 and 2013-14. In addition to seven team titles, Millican has also coached six MW Individual Champions (‘03, ‘06, ‘09, ‘11, ’14, ‘19), along with six MW Players of the Year (‘03, ‘07, ‘09, ‘13, ’14, ‘15). He also has led UNM to a pair of fifth-place finishes at the NCAA Championship (2005, 2013).
Ryan Donovan | Men's Head Coach | San Diego St.
Ryan Donovan is in his 18th year as head coach at San Diego State, having elevated his alma mater into a perennial contender on the national stage.
Donovan has coached the Aztecs to 186 top-10 overall tournament finishes, 125 top-five performances, 31 team titles and six NCAA championship appearances, highlighted by a fifth-place tie at nationals in 2012. During his tenure, SDSU has advanced to the NCAA regionals in 15 of 16 campaigns (2020 NCAA championships were canceled) and have also finished no worse than second at the Mountain West championships in six of the last 10 seasons SDSU competed (2020 MW championships were canceled), winning team titles in 2011, 2012 and 2015.
Under Donovan’s guidance, Aztec golfers have garnered 32 all-Mountain West accolades and 15 all-region honors, while seven of his pupils have been named to 13 All-America teams. In addition, Donovan has mentored three MW player of the year winners in Nahum Mendoza III (2016), J.J. Spaun (2012) and Aaron Goldberg (2008), as well as the trio of Ricky DeSantis (2014), Riccardo Michelini (2013) and Matt Hoffenberg (2008), who were each named conference freshman of the year in their respective rookie seasons.
